There are many actions you can take to protect your credit and debit card accounts from fraud, including:
Keep a close eye on your account activity. Take advantage of credit card suspicious activity alerts to notify you when a transaction occurs which may be fraudulent.
Consider designating one credit card to use for online purchases. If there is fraudulent activity on this card, you can still use another card.
Don’t carry all of your cards at once. If your purse or wallet is stolen you aren’t left without payment options.
Take advantage of any security tools offered by your financial institution. Tools such as the ability to set daily limits, turn cards off and on, set transaction based alerts or deny certain types of transactions will help you avoid fraud.
Protect your information online. Periodically reset your online passwords. Be alert for phishing emails in which spam messages or pop-ups try to get you to enter your credentials.
Keep up-to-date on fraud trends and news. Staying aware of what is being done is a good way to protect yourself.
