Betz-Holmes Trust Scholarship
In loving memory and honor of Leota Betz-Holmes who died on April 10, 2010, and in her Last Will and Testament created the Betz-Holmes Trust, naming The Gerber State Bank of Argenta, IL as its Trustee.
The Will states: “The net income be paid one-half to the Argenta-Oreana Public Library and one-half to fund educational scholarships as hereafter provided. The Trustee shall apply one-half of the income in furtherance of the higher education of worthy high school graduates who, without such aid, would have difficulty in pursing their education. The aid shall be by grant, under rules set up by the trustee. Those chosen to receive such benefits must be graduates of Argenta-Oreana High School at the time of their selection to receive such benefits. In making their choice as to persons to be benefited, the trustee shall be guided by the student’s character, intelligence and scholastic record.”
The first distribution from the Betz-Holmes Trust was in 2012, and as of 2023 a total of $342,713.00 has been distributed to Argenta-Oreana High School graduates in the form of scholarships, and to the Argenta-Oreana Public Library.
